BIM-Building Information Modeling
Hovland’s recently completed the UWEC Education Building project utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM). Traditionally, building design has relied on two-dimensional drawings and plans. BIM enhances the capabilities beyond 3D (width, height & depth), by adding time and cost as additional dimensions. Using BIM allows us to better coordinate with the owner, architect, engineer and other trades to identify potential conflicts. This increased coordination results in more accurate schedules and ultimately reduces the cost of the project.
While BIM is still not utilized on most projects in our area, because of our experience with BIM Hovland’s is able to utilize components of this process, even on smaller projects, to improve project coordination and gain efficiencies to reduce overall cost.
